Child Guidance Centre is a Special school for children with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities. The school has a multidisciplinary team providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to children with developmental, social, emotional, behavioral, learning, hearing, speech and language problems. Improved equipment , professional manpower and committed staff is the strongest component of the school. Functional skills are taught to the children to enable them to adapt themselves to their respective enviroment. The ultimate aim is to make them self-dependent and productive members of the society by providing them opportunity for education, vocational training and economic rehabilitation.
The school has gained a very good reputation. Today it is known as one of the best schools providing rehabilitation services in the field of Intellectual disability in Hyderabad. The school made a humble beginning in the year 1973 with hardly five students and 4 staff members and has grown to a strength of nearly 200 students with 53 staff members. The school strength includes children with Autism, Cerebral palsy, Downs Syndrome, Intellectual and Multiple Disabiliy. Mode of services at the Centre include both Centre and Home Based . Yoga , Music , Sand Play therapy are additionally provided to stregthen the school program for the children with special needs
The Inge Happy Home is a Project of Child Guidance Centre established in the year 2003. The program envisages multidimensional activities from the stage of survey to the stage of eventual rehabilitation of the street children leading them to a path of independence, making them self-supporting adults by providing them shelter, food, clothing, health care, protection, education, training, skill development and placement assistance. The program includes restoration to parental care, whenever this course is found feasible and desirable in the interest of the child concerned. The project has been successfully running since the year 2003.
Toby school is a branch of Child Guidance Centre (Special School for the Intellectually Disabled) established in the year 2002 at Swarnanagar, Ghatkesar. This branch was established to offer services to all the children residing in the rural areas in the Ghatkesar Mandal of Medchal district of Telangana State. The school offers both Day Care and Residential Facilities for children with special needs. The special school is strengthened by its qualified staff and team of professionals including Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists and Special Educators.
Balabata is project of Child Guidance Centre which empowers the State’s educational program. It strengthens the Government school by offering the children the needed educational support. Balabata is a development initiative for nearly 1200 Dalit children in different districts of Andhra Pradesh in the age group of 5-10 years who have been enrolled in the local primary government schools. The teachers in the Primary school are appointed and paid by the State government. Most of the teachers stay in the nearby towns but not in the villages where they are supposed to stay and work. Hence the teachers fail to devote sufficient time to students. On the other hand parents of the children are illiterate and are unable to assist them with their education. Hence the dropout rate is high. To reduce the dropout rate the Balabata program was started.

Cheyutha Project is an Income Generating Program wherein the parents of the disabled are provided loans to support better employment. Over the last several years many children / parents have utilized this opportunity and have expressed their satisfaction
The CBR programs of Child Guidance Centre aims at enhancing the quality of life of people with disabilities and their families in meeting their basic needs and ensuring their inclusion and participation. Through this multisectorial approach CGC works to improve the equalization of opportunities and social inclusion of people with disabilities while combating the perpetual cycle of poverty and disability. The CBR program is being implemented with the combined efforts of people with disabilities, their families, community and relevant government and non-government, health, education, vocational, social and other services.
Regular Camps are conducted in different districts to identify the disabled and provide them with proper support and referrals. The highlight of this program is the involvement of several stake holders. Door to door surveys are conducted at regular intervals to identify the handicapped and help them by providing them appropriate information and support regarding accessibility to rehabilitation services. The Community Based Rehabilitation Programs gradually aim at enabling the community to take up the responsibility of the disabled people.
HIV/AIDS Awareness Program:
The HIV/AIDS awareness program of CGC empowers and increases the awareness regarding HIV/AIDS in the community aiming at reducing the risk of the infection. “Prevention is better than cure” is what the program aims at by fighting against spreading of HIV/AIDS by creating awareness through cultural programmes. The cultural team attracts the attention of the public through (DamDora) drum beating following which Songs and Body theatre are used as affective modes of communicating relevant message to the people of the community. The awareness program aims to ensure a healthy atmosphere in the society to end social stigma and ensuring social marginalization.
HIV/AIDS Care and Support Programme:
As a part of CARE and SUPPORT program provisions are provided to the families having an HIV /AIDS affected person for proper care and treatment of infected person.
CGC has established a CARE AND SUPPORT HOME for nearly 20 children who are children of HIV/AIDS affected parents. Often children of HIV affected parents are victims of social stigma and are often abandoned by their families. The CARE and SUPPORT Home of CGC provides not only shelter and basic amenities to these children but is aiming at moulding the lives of these children for a better future by providing a homely atmosphere and educational opportunities.
The Dr. Ranjan Babu Vocational Junior College was established in the year 2004. The main motive behind starting this college was to provide educational opportunities to those students who would otherwise find it difficult to obtain admission in regular colleges with their low socio economic status and grades.
As a part of Disaster Management Program the organization has been a part of this project under which about 103 permanent houses have been constructed for the villagers with the association of the Andhra Pradesh Housing Board Society. Two Tsunami Shelter homes for the Orphans accommodating 50 orphans each have been built to provide shelter to the children who were left as orphans by the catastrophe.
CGC has been constantly making efforts to make basic health care accessible to the people of the community especially focusing on rural, tribal and remote areas of the state for saving and enriching the lives of the people. It conducts medical camps on a regular basis every year (Dental and Eye Camp, General Health Checkup etc) . Cases are identified for operations after which they are assisted to get operated. Preventive medicines for a few diseases are distributed and special focus is on Geriatric Medical care.
Water scarcity is a major problem in many areas of the state especially in summer season. Child Guidance Centre has installed several Water Boreholes to ensure accessibility of drinking water facilities to all the targeted families belonging to disadvantaged sections of the society.
The Vocational Training/Rehabilitation Centre offers Vocational Training for persons with all types of disabilities. The project aims at developing the vocational skills of the disabled enabling them to be productive members of the society. The vocational skills opted for an individual is based on a comprehensive assessment of the individuals skills and the community based on which a particular trade is chosen for providing training.
The Heralds Human Resource Academy was established in the year 2008. Child Guidance Centre (TL010) is working towards developing human resources in the field of Disability Rehabilitation with specific focus on Intellectual Disability. CGC is a training Centre recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India.
The Centre currently offers two training programs.
The Centre for the Traumatized Women has been established in Guntur. This Centre works towards the restoration and rehabilitation of 200 traumatized women (including women with disability) by providing them temporary shelter where they can undergo vocational training for their economic rehabilitation. Vocational Training in different trades like Bangle Making, Beautician course, Bakery, Gardening, etc. is provided to them to make them self-reliant.
Government of Andhra Pradesh sanctioned the following Short Term Courses for our institute: Bakery & Confectionery, Beautician Course, Embroidery & Zig-Zag, Pre Primary Teacher Training, Farm Assistant, Gardener Training Course, Accounting Package, DTP and MS Office. The purpose of these courses is to generate employment opportunities. There is heavy demand for these courses in private and government sectors and the qualified candidate can establish their own entities and earn independently and employee others in their entities.
The Dr. Swarnalatha Devi Vocational Junior College was established in the year 2011. The main motive behind starting this college was to provide educational opportunities to the girls belonging to remote rural areas who would otherwise find it difficult to obtain admission in regular colleges with their low socio economic status and grades.
The Holistic Rehabilitation Facility established at Guntur is an attempt at providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to people with Disabilities. The aim is to empower the differentially abled by offering qualitative rehabilitation services thus enabling them to be integrated into the society by encouraging full participation and protection of their rights. The centre offers various services including Developmental, Intellectual, Audio logical and Ophthalmological Assessment and Intervention services. The centre works towards preventive and promotional aspects of rehabilitation like education, employment and vocational training, research and manpower development and creation of barrier-free environment.
The Community Health Shelters are presently functioning in the district of Guntur. These shelters have been established to promote health care for the people in the community. These Centres provide proper medical amenities to the people residing in rural areas and improves their health conditions by educating them about hygiene and sanitation. The shelters offer preliminary tests for common diseases among the people. The Community Health Shelter primarily offers basic first aid for physical and mental ailments.
This is a recently started project of Child Guidance Centre. A Rehabilitation centre has been established at West Godavari to offer rehabilitation services for the rural and tribal people with disabilities. The Centre offers diagnostic therapeutic services for the disabled. The target areas include predominantly tribal areas. Our main focus is to empower the children and adults with disability in the district of West Godavari by strengthening their personal skills, academic, social, occupational, recreational and vocational skills. Our aim is to reach out to every individual with disability and enable him/her to have an access to rehabilitation services by providing him/her the needed support.
Child Guidance Centre has established a Special School in the North Eastern State of Manipur. The Innocent Smile Special School is located in the Noney district of Manipur. Rehabilitation services in the North east were minimal hence this new project just commenced and is still in its budding stage.
